Great show! I listened to it from start to finish in one sitting.
Just throwing OMSN into the 1st set closer spot should grab your attention. 1st set is ... extremely varied and great tune selection.
2nd set feature all jam tunes plus I sang along the whole time pre-drums and is just wide open. drumz is all high octane!
Starting to Jones for Dead & Co @ Pittsburgh, PA big time this summer!

I've kicked around long enough to know when the
boys are blazing on acid. The music reeks of the
stuff - I'm flashbacking just listening to it.
This, ... of course, makes for an excellent show.
It is true that Garcia has to struggle at times to contain his riffs within the bars, so to speak- his attempt to keep the beat on the UJB main solo is really very amusing. Almost pulls it
off ;-)
The sound is fine and clear, but definitely a little idiosyncratic. It's a matter of personal
taste, not a deficiency, IMHO.
Personally, I'm delighted that, even as late as 1990, the guys were able to doze heavily and enjoy themselves. Wish I had been there.
A really nice head to the whole listening experience. Almost a four star show, with some
special added consciousness-expanding enhancements that makes it all quite special.

This was my first west coast show, and I absolutely loved it. The heat and so forth that many have mentioned here probably affected the style, all I remember
...
is that it felt very "liquid". There was a point during the first set when Phil was just thumping like a madman, I thought it was our placement with relation to the speakers. The first time I really appreciated how incredible he is (or any bassist for that matter).

of the drummers' right foot, but a lead instrument in its own right. Check out "Race" or the intro to "Help". This is fun to listen to, and a must have for all Phil Phreaks.

else. What a great intorduction to the scene. The set list couldn't have been more perfect for a 1st show. Got my Help>Slip>Frank and the old standards of Playin, (which I think is an underrated version)UJB, Truckin, and Crazy Fingers with some more rarities like Race is on. It's too bad that this spread got slowly forgotten after my next show was RFK '90. I Had to go back and listen to this one to re- appreciate it. Both days have a nice groove for such a hot day. It might not be a energetic as the east coast spring but it has a nice spacey groove feel to the whole show.

as far as freedom and liberty existed at thease shows and everyone had such mutual respect. anyone and everyone willing to share a sip or a toke. The Grateful Dead Believe in their ability to cre8 magic and this show was proof. what an experience this was. meerly incredible. all the tie-tye scarfs I was wering by the end of the show, the thing I got stuck in my teeth gnawing on it, (boy my friends laughed at me for that) seeing Jerry Garcia live beeing the reluctant legend he was and getting to see how deadheads really are, man the heads are a big part of the show as well as the band. funny how there wasan't the hippie bazzar market out in the parking lot. I guess I was fortinate to score my "miracle" before going in. then metting Mr. Charle the candyman after the show and taking him with us back to the Holiday Inn. The Arcive and The Dead being willing to allow taping and trading will keep the magic alive! Loved this show!!! What Beautiful people!!!

105 degrees fahrenheit but pretty amazing; cookin' more than just our skin. Broadcast on KPFK. This is the closest the band ever played to my home. (Actually
...
my father's place, I didn't still live there). What was so cool about that, is that I could go to his house in Hermosa Beach and set up a Hi-Fi V.C.R. to record off the radio and just let it roll at high speed (I think?), and go to the show, and still get to the show in time and come back to a complete recording!
This is fun with "The Race is On". The "Help on Way" is mediocre, so that is partly why I only gave it 4. The next day is similarly hot and has it's moments as well, but wasn't broadcast on the radio. This show here, has the absolute greatest version of "Queen Jane Approximately" I've ever seen! Check out Brent's keyboard solo! Awesome! And I don't use that word lightly. Oh, how caan I forget my first "Loose Lucy"! Wowie Zowie.
It is too bad the folks without tickets blew it so they never played here again!
Enjoy,
Augy
